Choose a consistent cart cohort and observation cutoff. Count each cart once, not every add-to-cart event.

Completed original carts by the same cutoff; exclude direct checkouts or orders not associated with those carts.

Basket-value assumption in one currency. Use a net product-value basis and exclude collected taxes/duties; enter 0 for a zero-value scenario.

Your hypothetical share of the currently abandoned carts recovered in a defined future window, from 0 to 100. Not an actual observed rate or guaranteed result.

Formula

Abandoned carts = created carts − completed carts. Cart abandonment rate = abandoned carts ÷ created carts × 100. Cart completion rate = completed carts ÷ created carts × 100. Indicative abandoned basket value = abandoned carts × assumed average cart value. Scenario recovered carts = abandoned carts × scenario recovery percentage ÷ 100. Scenario gross product value = expected recovered carts × assumed average cart value.

How to use this calculation

1,000 unique carts with 300 matched completed carts leave 700 abandoned carts: 70% abandonment and 30% completion. At an assumed value of 50 per abandoned cart, basket value is 35,000. A hypothetical 10% recovery scenario represents an expected 70 carts and 3,500 product value, not guaranteed additional revenue or profit.

  • Use the same unique cart cohort, channel, deduplication policy and observation cutoff for created and completed carts. Direct or open-funnel checkouts that never created one of these carts must not be added to its completion count. Checkout abandonment starts from initiated checkouts, not created carts. Zero created carts makes the rate undefined, rather than 0%.
  • The recovery percentage applies only to currently abandoned carts and is a user-defined what-if assumption, not an industry benchmark or an observed recovery measurement. Define an attribution/recovery window and account for delayed organic purchases before interpreting campaign effects. Fractional expected recovered carts are probability-weighted expectations, not actual partial orders; zero abandoned carts gives a zero recovery scenario.
  • Indicative basket and scenario product values are not established lost sales, incremental profit or a revenue forecast. Some shoppers are browsing or saving for later. Recovered baskets, discounts, returns and campaign costs may differ; the scenario assumes unchanged average product value. This tool sends no reminders, places no orders and connects to no customer accounts.
